Children's Crafts: Colored stones

After I saw this technique to paint with melting crayons on rocks on Jean Van't Hul's page "The Artful Parent", I simply had to set everything up to try it ourselves :-)

Friedrich and I spend an peaceful morning heating stones we collected last year at different beaches in the oven at 160°C.
We took out one for each of us at the time, to keep the rest warm.
I bought two different crayon one on beeswax base the other with petroleum. Both worked nicely, although the petroleum ones seemed to give a bite shinier surface after the cooling.

It was great fun and definitely something we all together have to repeat...but first we have to find the right stones on our next sailing trip ;-)
