And indeed the white Rhododendron started and from the look of the buds the pink and red ones are not far from following the example....More picture will come.
A couple of years ago we discovered that only one petal, to upper one is speckled. The reason is quite obvious, but still every time the first blossoms show up, I am fascinated by this (well may be I am especially easy to be fascinated...;-)
Some facts: Rhododendron (Greek for Rosetree) is a genus of 1024 species in the family Ericaceae mostly native to Asia although many species reside in the Southern Highland of the Appalachian Mountains of North America.
There are evergreen species as well as those losing the leaves autumn.
Many species are toxic and toxic reaction can be even seen after high consumption of honey from the nectar of Rhododendron, since even nectar and pollen contains the poison.
